Altar Server Training:
1. Please arrive 20-30 minutes before Mass.
2. Try
to call a sub if you can't be there.
3. Sign you name in the Black Book so the Sacristan knows you are here.
4. Get Dressed:
-Robes should come down to your ankles or the bottom
of your pants.
-Tie the rope (cincture) around your waist.
-Put on a cross.
5. When the church bells ring, light the candles and come to
the main entrance and wait.
Beginning Procession:
1. Process in slowly.
2. Walk
in front of the Altar.
-Place cross in it's holder
-Candles to
on each side of Ambo. (If you have trouble getting them in, Father will help you.)
-Go
to your seats.
3. When Father nods, Cross Bearer will go to him to hold notebook
-Stay there and then hold Red Book (sacramentary)
God's Word (Scriptures):
1. Listen to
the readings
2. Try not to play with you ropes (cinctures). (You can be a wonderful example for the little
kids who will be altar servers someday.)
Setting The Table:
1. Watch for the Adults to
put the cloth (corporal) on the table. (It will happen when the little kids bring up their gift of money.)
2.
The Cross Bear - places Red Book (Sacramentary) on the Altar
-place Father's
Chalice and Water Cruet on Altar
-sit down
3. Candle Bearers:
-place Cups on Altar
-place Pyx Tray
on Altar
-take your candles from the Ambo to the entrance
-slowly
lead the people carrying gifts to the Altar
-place your candles on each side of the Altar
-stand on each side of Father to receive the gifts
-place
gifts on the Altar
One Candle Bearer (1):
-waits at Altar for Father to mix the water and
wine.
-he will hand you the cruiet, you make a bow
-he will hand
you the wine pitcher- bow again
-place the cruet and pitcher on ledge
-sit
down
The other Candle Bearer (2):
-put towel over your arm
-take
water bowl (lavabo) to Father
-after he washes and dries his hands, make a bow and put them
back on ledge
-sit down
Communion Time:
-Receive Communion
-Candle
people go to your seats
Cross Bearer:
-put Red Book (sacramentary) back
on Father's table
-place Father's Chalice on his table
-you
will be holding his notebook one more time for the final prayer
Final Blessing:
-take candles
and cross to the front of Altar (cross stands in front of Father's chair)
-do not bow
-process out slowly
-hand up your robes, ropes and crosses
